Alberta — Opportunity Stream

The Alberta Opportunity Stream nominates workers already employed in Alberta on an eligible work permit who meet the province’s occupation, language and residency requirements. A provincial nomination is a step toward permanent residence, which IRCC decides separately. Each requirement below is quoted from the governing Alberta source and links back to it.

Eligibility criteria

Qualified candidates who live and work in Alberta and have a job offer from an Alberta employer can apply for an AAIP nomination.
An application fee of $1,500 applies to all worker stream applications
You must pay the application fee before your application is accepted for processing by AAIP.
Be ready to complete the entire WEOI.

Candidates must also meet other minimum eligibility criteria for residency and work permit type, occupation, language, education, Alberta job offer and work experience.
As of January 1, 2021, at the time your application is submitted, you must have completed a minimum of high school education equivalent to Canadian standards.
You cannot create a WEOI if you have an existing WEOI, Entrepreneur EOI, or a draft or active AAIP application.
You cannot save a draft of the WEOI.
Upload your statements of earnings for each pay period in the past 3 months.
If you are a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) holder, your occupation must also be related to your field of study in Alberta.
Post-Graduation Work Permit holders require a minimum of 6 months full-time work experience in your current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months.
Physicians: Must be NOC 31100, 31101, or 31102 and be practice‑ready (meeting AAIP’s Dedicated Health Care Pathway requirements).

Upload Use of Representative form and ensure it is fully completed including: Signed and dated by you, your spouse or common-law partner, dependants aged 18 and over, and your representative
You may only have one AAIP application in process at any time across all AAIP streams and pathways.
You can only have one WEOI.
Nominees must have skills to fill job shortages or be planning to buy or start a business in Alberta.
At the time your application is submitted, and at the time AAIP assesses your application, you must have a valid temporary resident status in Canada that authorizes you to work in Canada, that is, a temporary foreign worker permit.
At the time your application is submitted, and at the time AAIP assesses your application, you must have a valid work permit – not status maintained during processing (formerly implied status) or restoration status.
