This restates IRCC’s Proof of funds page (2026-06-22). Not legal advice. Does not say if you are eligible or which program you will be invited under.
Who IRCC says needs it
IRCC: proof of funds is how you show you have enough money to settle in Canada. Written proof is required if IRCC invites you to apply. IRCC names it as a minimum requirement for the Federal Skilled Worker Program and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.
IRCC says you do not need to show enough money to support yourself and your family if you are applying under the Canadian Experience Class, or you are authorized to work in Canada and have a valid job offer (even under FSW or FST).
IRCC: keep funds up to date in your profile. The system may find you eligible for more than one program. You do not always know which program you will be invited under. If the system asks for proof and IRCC’s page says you do not need it, IRCC says upload a letter explaining the CEC invitation or the valid job offer plus work authorization.
How much (IRCC table, updated 2025-07-07)
IRCC updates the table yearly using 50% of the low income cut-off. If you have more, IRCC says list the full amount. 1: $15,263. 2: $19,001. 3: $23,360. 4: $28,362. 5: $32,168. 6: $36,280. 7: $40,392. Each additional: $4,112.
Family size, per IRCC: you, spouse or common-law partner, your dependent children, and your partner’s dependent children — even if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, or not coming with you.
What IRCC accepts
Funds must be available when you apply and when IRCC issues a permanent resident visa if approved. IRCC asks for official letters from banks or financial institutions. Use IRCC’s page for the letter contents. IRCC: you cannot use equity on real property, and you cannot borrow this money from another person.
IRCC also said settlement-fund figures were updated, and a profile update was due no later than 2025-07-28. That date is past; confirm the current table on IRCC’s page.
